Gum arabic, alternatively known as acacia gum or E414, comes from the sap of acacia trees. Native to tropical regions of Africa and Australia, acacia is a shrub-like tree that can grow up to 15 feet tall and has sharp thorns.
The wood of the acacia tree is known for its inelasticity, strength, and durability. Its moist and quickly growing sap wood makes it a desirable wood for railway embankments.
Uses
It is used in many different products, ranging from ink to ice cream and shoe polish. It is also used to produce a medium for applying balsams, resins, essential oils, camphor, and musk.
Furthermore, the gum is used as a pharmaceutical ingredient in medications for stomach or throat inflammation and as a film-forming agent in peel-off skin masks.
Benefits
This is an important source of dietary fiber, and it is usually taken to increase fiber consumption and help alleviate constipation.
Side effects
Consuming the supplement in large amounts can cause gas production, unpleasant feeling in the mouth, bloating, mild nausea, loose stools, and diarrhea. Different types of this gum can cause allergic reactions, including skin lesions and respiratory problems.

- Top Builder: Yes, just don't confuse God with allah.
- Viktoria Yatsenko: 25$ a bottle? is the bottle small? Well i think they may have reason why its expensive. It depends on quality of the product and how high demand for it is. It also depends how much of it is in the market. Perhaps , the limited supply of it and the high demand for it cause the increased in price. Have you looked into the substitute gums such as Xanthan gum? well its used in foods and cosmetics, i'm not sure if it has been used in art supplies.
- mianwaliasil: Text is not readable due to dark colours in back ground

- nunya biznez: I'm an artist looking to make my own paint. The binding agent usually used in the paint I have been using is gum Arabic. But it is very expensive so I want to try making my own. The problem is I can't find the ingredients. I have been to several art stores and other retail places and each tells me either they never heard of it or I must buy the gum Arabic already made. At $25 a bottle I'm not saving any money making my own paint. Ideas? Suggestions?
- Jan Berrios: WTF
- Abarna Devi: This contains drugs
- Abarna Devi: Is that true
- TheDanAcademy: The facts given is not based on a single person experience, you are giving your personal view. So go back to facts that gathered from reliable source and population based studies.
- Daniel Gable: I'm using this to make ink. One thing I like about it is that it is edible. The other things I use are also edible, Iron Oxide, Carbon, and Titanic Acid. Can't vouch for the combination, but the individual ingredients are edible. Of all that I use in my ink, this is the only one I have to purchase.
- brian gallia: Just in case you want a snack in the middle of doing a drawing.
- Jennifer Anderson: Great facts...I found the music quite offensive.
- Logan Gomez: Great source of prebiotic.
- Kawaii snow pup: CIGARETTE'S PAPER?!? I'M EATING CANDY WITH E414 BLAH BLAH BLAH *dies*
- Asia AlSaidi: Arab women have been chewing this gum since the beginning of time. It's naturally sugar free & I've certainly never heard anyone reporting any side effects whatsoever. It is also used perfumed to burn as 'bokhoor' in an oil burner, giving off a beautiful aroma that lingers in the home & on clothes. Beautiful, versatile stuff, naturally, a gift for humankind.
