A "pinched nerve" is the name given to the pain, uncomfortable sensation, or numbness caused when increased pressure leads to damage or irritation to a peripheral nerve. Nerves are specialized cells which transmit messages throughout your body.
Damage from a pinched nerve can range from minor to severe. It may cause temporary or even long-lasting problems. However, the earlier you begin treatment for neck pain symptoms, the faster you’ll experience relief.

Tips
Avoid driving if you find it difficult to turn your head – as it may become difficult for you to view the traffic.
Sleep on a low, firm pillow at night – using too many pillows may force your neck to bend unnaturally.
Use a splint or brace to keep the nerve immobile when necessary.
