As you lose weight, loose skin begins to appear. However, your skin will slowly return to a shape which fits your new body. The process can take more than one year, therefore, here are a few steps you can take to make your skin tighten faster:
#1 Eat Foods High In Vitamin C - vitamin C found in fruits and vegetables aids collagen formation. Collagen is a type of protein which accounts for 25 percent of the total protein amount in your body. Its primary function is to link cells in our body together and to create elasticity.
Foods Rich In Vitamin C include – strawberries, grapefruit, red peppers, oranges, Brussels sprouts, kale, guava, turnip greens, kiwi, broccoli, cauliflower, red cabbage, zucchini, raspberries, blackberries, lemon, lime, clementine, tomatoes, peas, papaya, mango, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe.
#2 Omega-3 Fatty Acids - they are essential fats which have numerous benefits for health, including skin health. For example, according to a recent study, omega-3 fatty acids in fatty may help increase skin elasticity since they can affect collagen function.
Healthy foods which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids include flax seeds, chia seeds, avocados, walnuts, pecans, millet, kale, macadamia nuts, pistachios, brown rice, mung beans, red kidney beans, and sesame seeds.
#3 Weight Training - it is especially important if you have dropped your caloric intake notably, as when you lose fat, you usually lose muscle as well. Besides weight-training, add in some muscle-building exercises, such as - jumping jacks, squats, pull-ups, push-ups, strength-training or other anaerobic exercises.
#4 Increase Your Water Intake - if you're not already drinking plenty of water, start. Aim to drink about two liters of water per day. Also, drinking water contributes to improving your digestion too, as it helps to rid the body of waste and toxins.
#5 Coconut Oil - it is a natural way to hydrate your skin. Saggy skin benefits from proper hydration since it works to tighten and firm. Apply a bit directly to the loose skin a few times per week.
#6 Stop Smoking - smoking leads to a reduction in collagen production and damage to existing collagen, resulting in loose, sagging skin. Moreover, experts say that within months of quitting smoking, circulation is restored to normal or near-normal levels.
#7 Massages - not only is it good for your mental health, but it can work to tighten and firm skin since it increases circulation.
#8 Avoid Skin Damaging Toxins - Check the ingredient labels of all the body washes, soaps, and shampoos you buy. Most of these products have sulfates in them which slow down collagen production and reduces the amount of moisture your skin has.
#9 Epsom Salt Baths - it tightens the skin and removes all the extra fluids that might cause your skin to sag. It also improves circulation, that helps skin tightening.
#10 Limit Sun Exposure - UV light slows down deposition of new collagen as well as activating the enzymes that break down existing collagen, causing the elasticity and volume of our skin to lessen as we age.
Note
The elasticity of your skin depends on the time you were obese. It doesn’t matter if you dropped pounds slowly or quickly. The longer it was stretched out, the less are the chances to bounce back.
Should you consider surgery?
Tightening skin after severe weight loss can take time, and it can be difficult but, for most people, surgery is not necessary. Also, remember that any surgery carries some risks with it and this type of cosmetic surgery is no exception.
