Cholesterol is found in every cell of the human body and has important natural functions when it comes to producing hormones, digesting foods, and generating vitamin D.
The body does not need that much cholesterol, plus, excess amounts can be deposited along the lining of artery walls, which, ultimately, leads to a decreased amount of blood flow to various parts of the body.
high LDL cholesterol is usually called "the silent killer" due to the fact that for most sufferers there are no apparent symptoms to look out for.
However, some signs and symptoms can point to the presence of high LDL and total cholesterol levels in the body, such as:
#1 Pain On Walking - the pain occurs when walking a certain distance, and it is relieved by rest, and then happens again when walking the same distance.
#2 Erectile Dysfunction – this happens because most cases of erectile dysfunction are caused by impaired blood flow to the penis.
#3 Decreased Clitoral Arterial Blood Flow - cholesterol can build up in the arteries and make it difficult for blood to reach the pelvic region. Some of those clogged arteries leading to the clitoris make an orgasm or any type of pleasurable sensation almost impossible.
#4 Back Pain - obstruction of the abdominal aorta inevitably leads to a restriction in blood supply in the lumbar spine 2, 3. This reduced blood flow to the vertebral bodies, intervertebral discs, and myofascial structures may result in various back symptoms, including pain.
#5 Stroke - the buildup of plaque caused by high LDL cholesterol can put you at increased risk of having the blood supply to a vital part of your brain reduced or cut off.
#6 Heart attack - about 50 percent of all heart attacks are caused by raised LDL and total cholesterol.
#7 Vision Problems - high cholesterol can lead to sudden blindness caused by retinal vein occlusion - the blockage of the small veins which transport blood away from the retina.
#8 Angina, also referred to as chest pain, manifests through squeezing pain located in the chest area, pressure or the sensation of tightness.
#9 Stomach Pain - in severe or advanced stages, high total cholesterol levels can lead to abdominal and stomach pain.
#10 Increased Tiredness - poor blood circulation leads to tiredness since the entire body receives a reduced amount of nutrients and oxygen.
