Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and develops in the bone marrow, the soft material in the center of bones which makes red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
In the present day, an estimated 1,290,773 Americans are either living with, or are in remission from lymphoma, leukemia, or myeloma.
The cause of leukemia is unknown, but some factors may increase the risk, including - certain chemicals, smoking, Down syndrome, Bloom syndrome, myelodysplastic syndromes, radiation exposure, and chemotherapy.
Signs and symptoms of leukemia in women and men may include the following:
#1 Anemia - this occurs due to low red blood cell count. This condition may contribute to fatigue, weakness, or shortness of breath.
#2 Enlargement Of The Liver Or Spleen - it can lead to abdominal swelling or pain.
#3 Tiny, Flat, Red Spots - they are caused by bleeding just under the surface of the skin.
#4 Unexplained Weight Or Appetite Loss.
#5 Recurrent Nosebleeds.
#6 Excessive Sweating - this usually happens at night.
#7 Malaise - a general feeling of illness or discomfort.
#8 Easy Bleeding - it may cause purplish patches on the skin.
#9 Swelling In The Abdomen - this might be observed as feeling full after eating only a small amount of food.
#10 Infections - they can occur due to a shortage of normal white blood cells. These are infections which don’t seem to go away.
