Gatorade
This sports drinks has been around for half a century and is now sold in over 80 countries. It is the only beverage permitted for drinking on the bench at an NBA game, other than water.
It holds about fifty percent of the worldwide market, and 69.5 percent of the United States.
The beverage was 1st developed in 1965 by a team of researchers at the University of Florida to replenish the carbohydrates that the school's student-athletes burned and the combination of electrolytes and water which they lost in sweat during intense physical exercise.
While water is the most logical form of hydration, sports drinks like Gatorade contain sugar and electrolytes like potassium and sodium. Sports drinks can also help replace what we lose during longer duration exercise, particularly in the heat.
Gatorade is also beneficial during illness, particularly if fluids have been lost due to fever, diarrhea, or vomiting. More importantly, Gatorade can be beneficial to individuals who suffer from low blood sugar or hypoglycemia, as it provides a high source of carbohydrate to keep blood sugar levels up.
Pedialyte
Pedialyte is an oral electrolyte solution which manufactured to replace essential minerals and nutrients that are lost when a child has diarrhea with or without vomiting. Having the right amount of minerals and fluids is vital for the normal functioning of the body.
Pedialyte contains more sodium (1,035 milligrams per liter vs. 465 mg/L in Gatorade) and potassium (780 milligrams per liter vs. 127 mg/L in Gatorade). In addition, it is lower in sugars than most sports drinks, containing 100 calories per liter compared to about 200 in Gatorade.
