Prostate cancer is cancer which occurs in the prostate — a small walnut-shaped gland in men that sits underneath the bladder and surrounds the urethra. This gland produces the seminal fluid which nourishes and transports sperm.

Most prostate cancers happen in men older than age 65. In the United States, it is the 3rd leading cause of cancer death in men, behind lung cancer and colorectal cancer.

Every year, more than 28,000 men in the US die from prostate cancer. In the United Kingdom,  this type of cancer kills over 11,000 men every year.

The following factors are considered to increase the risk of prostate cancer: smoking, diet, age, being obese, and sedentarism.

Here are 10 signs and symptoms of prostate cancer:

#1 Trouble starting and stopping while urinating.

#2 Problems getting an erection.

#3 Feeling that your bladder has not fully emptied.

#4 Unexplained weight loss.

#5 Pain on ejaculation.

#6 Taking a long time while urinating.

#7 A need to urinate frequently, particularly at night.

#8 Blood in the urine or semen.

#9 Pain in the hips, back, shoulders, thighs, or other bones. This usually occurs if cancer has spread outside of the prostate gland.

#10 Bone fractures.
